Phonics
Phonics
Phonics is a way to teach children how to read and write. Your child will participate in a 30 minute Phonics session every day to learn the skills of early reading and writing. We learn 4 sounds every week. At ÎÚÑ»´«Ã½ we use Little Wandle Letters and Sounds. You can find materials to help you support your child on the website:
Please click on the 'Related Downloads' section on the right for some useful sound sheets ----->
"Sound talking" and "Sweep": This strategy teaches your child to read individual graphemes and sweep the sounds together. For example, "b-oa-t boat"
"Segment": This strategy teaches your child to say the sounds they can hear in words. For example, when writing 'boat' your child will say "b" as the first sound.
Summer Term
In the summer term we will be using our Phase 3 sounds to read and write longer words with more than one syllable such as ‘raining’, ‘harder’ or ‘power’. Please continue to practise the sounds and tricky words that your child brings home.
Below are the sounds that your child will be revising, please take time to go through these with your child and practice them at home. On the website, there are videos showing how each of the different sounds are pronounced. It is important that children are practicing pure sounds to support their reading. for the parents section of the Little Wandle website.
