Maths
We follow the NCETM Mastering Number approach in Reception. This helps us to build secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children, developing children's fluency and flexibility with number. Attention will be given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception classes, and progression through KS1 to support success in the future.
As well as this, we also teach the children about Shape, Space and Measure, building up their understanding of concepts such as pattern, properties of shapes, and measurement.
Autumn 1
In our maths mastery sessions, we will be focusing on subitising skills. This is where we learn the patterns of numbers so our brains don't need to count small collections of objects, it recognises how many there are straight away. We will be learning the counting rules, and practising counting within 10. We will begin to look at composition of numbers 3 and 4.
In our Shape, Space and Measure sessions, we will be beginning to look at the properties of different shapes, as well as creating simple AB patterns.
